A Letter to the People We Can’t Live Without

While this letter is technically directed to one specific person in my life, I hope you read this and think about someone in your life.

You may be able to think of a few, I know I certainly can, but I hope that there is at least one person that comes to mind.  Because if we have at least one person in our lives that do too much for us, I think we should consider ourselves very lucky.

For me, that person is my brother, Trenot.  Just to be clear, his real name is not Trenot, it’s Trent (long story), but I’m going to go ahead and refer to him as Trenot.  He is my absolute best friend in the entire world and I have no idea what I would do without him.  He has been there for me when no one else was and has helped me through things that I wasn’t sure I’d be able to get through.  While he is my best friend, he is also a friend to so many.  He has the biggest heart of any one I know and I hope one day I can learn to be as forgiving and loving as he is to everyone around him.

I’m guessing by this point you’re all wondering the point of this blog post.

Well, like I said before, we all have someone in our lives who is our everything.  Who does entirely too much and never asks for anything in return.  Trenot, for the last year I have watched you work harder than just about anyone I know.  I have seen you go from blacking out every weekend (lol) to working open houses every weekend.  I’ve watched as you’ve been the best son, brother, and boyfriend you can be all the while trying to make a name for yourself in your career.  I have heard you say no to concerts and weekend trips because you knew you had to work.  I’ve heard your alarm at 5 am so you can train for your triathlon before heading into the office.

While I could not be prouder of the person you are becoming, I also think you need a break.

I think you deserve, more than anyone else, a vacation.  A time to enjoy yourself and see the world, even if only for a week.  Luckily, this comes at a time when I’m about to head to Europe myself.  So instead of missing you for another three months, I figured why not book you a trip to see me?  Which is why, I’ve bought you a round trip ticket to visit me in Europe this summer.  It’s a back of the bus seat on a sketchy airline (fingers crossed it’s not a middle seat), but it’s a ticket nonetheless!  It’ll be at the end of my internship, so we’ll have about a week to explore and hang out before I get kicked out of the EU.

Like I said before, you deserve this.  Whether or not you have success in your career (which I know you will), know that you have had success as my brother.  Know that you have been successful in becoming a hard-working, loving, and all-around good person.  In the end, that’s all that really matters.  So thank you for all that you do for me and thank you in advance for taking a week off of work to hang out with me.  I love you more than you know.

To everyone else, I hope this reminds you of someone in your life.

I hope it reminds you to tell the people you love just how important they are to you.  Whether it’s a ticket to visit you or a text to let them know you’re thinking about them, it will be appreciated.  Love the ones you have and love yourself enough to know when you need a break.  We all deserve a vacation every now and again!  Happy Friday everyone 🙂

  5. What a lovely letter to your brother, it’s so good that you are so close. I have a sister I am very close to and wish I could afford to fly her and her family out to visit me while I am away on my travels. It hasn’t happened yet but I hope one day they will come and see me in a place I decide to call home. Enjoy your trip to Europe and I hope your brother enjoys his trip too 🙂
